On-Site SEO

Content is the #1 form of on-site SEO and generates leads. Once you have a good quantity of content that educates prospects wherever they are in the sales funnel (i.e., top-, mid-, and bottom-funnel content), you can further optimize your website with the on-site SEO best practices below.

Keyword Research & Incorporation

The process starts by extensively researching all relevant keywords for each of your solutions, then prioritizing high-intent keywords with significant search volumes over more general, low-intent keywords. Then incorporate these high-priority keywords within the following for each page on your site or, if you have a large website, for at least the top 20% of pages:

  • File name and folder (i.e. URL)
  • Page title and meta description (Google has deprecated the “keywords” tag for many years)
  • H1 headings (only one per page) and other headings (i.e. H2, H3, etc.)
  • Image ALT text
  • Calls-to-action

Note: this content must also read well to resonate with prospects, so on-site SEO is actually a strategic copywriting effort.

Sitewide Optimization

Highlights include:

  • Optimizing your Core Web Vitals: you can discover yours by using the Google PageSpeed Insights Tool – if you’re not above 80/100 for mobile and 90/100 for desktop, your rankings will suffer
  • Ensuring your sitemap.xml and robots.txt files are optimized
  • Using the right href-lang tags, page canonicalization, and schema markups
  • Listing key solutions, a FAQ, and your address in the footer (important for local SEO)
  • Ensuring your tags are set up properly for all Google properties, including Analytics, Search Console, Ads (if applicable), Business, and Tag Manager, and those for any other SEO-related service (e.g. Bing Webmaster Tools and Microsoft Clarity)

Content Syndication & Strategic Link Building

The Problem

With ChatGPT and other AI content generators, on-site SEO can be effective for niche keywords but is no longer effective enough to rank organically for popular, high-intent keywords. Accelerating your rankings requires publishing unique content on reputable, third-party sites with a high domain authority.

For ourselves and clients in the past, there were always high-priority keywords for which we could never rank on Google page one despite producing an enormous amount of mid/bottom-funnel content written by our content team, which includes former journalists and published authors.

The Solution

With content syndication, we now consistently rank on Google page 1, if not in the top three results, for many of these high-priority keywords. Just Google “B2B marketing agency” or “B2B marketing services” to see how this works for us.

The most important content syndication websites include article publishing sites, company directories, and social media. Additional sites focus on company reviews, events, hiring, presentations, press releases, online encyclopedias, and videos (including YouTube, but there are others).

While you can freely post to many of these sites, there are some cost-effective, “pay-to-play” sites that are highly effective at driving up rankings. We vetted them for the last 18 years and know where to post and where to avoid shady, black-hat SEO types that could incur Google’s wrath.

To ensure Google indexes this content, it must be unique. This can be achieved by repurposing content you already have, which is a much lighter effort than creating new content. Just make sure that the quality of this content is consistent with your brand. Warning: many are tempted to produce content for syndication as quickly and cheaply as possible, but the result is poorly written content that reads like gibberish. This approach will come back to bite you at some point.
