Does Social Media Have B2B Value?
Yes. People seem to believe that social media is only for personal and business-to-consumer (B2C) use, but it holds value for business-to-business (B2B) marketing. Each social media site is a platform to connect with more people, in a way they find enjoyable, and that links back to your website (good from an SEO standpoint). Here’s how:
- LinkedIn: the most important B2B social media platform, from your company profile, to re-purposing all new blogs and web pages (remember to always link them back to your website), to syndicating blogs
- Twitter: the second most important B2B social media platform and a good thought leadership outlet, from timely Tweets, to your profile, to re-purposing all new blogs and web pages, to following prospects, partners and market influencers
- Facebook: not as important as LinkedIn or Twitter but, since you’re already re-purposing new content there, why not also on Facebook?
- YouTube: videos of demos, presentations and other useful content is far more visible (instantly) than on your website – remember to optimize your profile and link it back to your website, and always link video posts back to the most relevant page on your webiste
- Instagram: like Facebook, it’s not that viable for B2B but the value of a simple link in your profile is an important link for SEO, and you might as well re-purpose all new content here as well
- Pinterest: like Instagram, it’s not that viable for B2B but the value of a simple link in your profile is an important link for SEO, and you might as well post any interesting new pictures here
- Google Plus: no longer relevant as it was discontinued in 2019 (RIP)
Warning: unless you are looking to establish thought leadership on Twitter and LinkedIn, social media sites rarely generate a significant volume of leads and should thus be only 5-10% of your overall marketing effort.
